The pull toward AI goes back further: a licensed French translator earlier on, working with some of the first applied translation-memory tools — software that suggested matches from a database of human-curated translations, a distant, much cruder ancestor of what a language model does today. Discovering transformer models a few years ago is what pulled him back in for good.
